Arrest and seizure Law

Both managing partners of A-Law are highly knowledgeable in the domains of arrest and seizure law both in common proceedings and the specific legal proceedings on arrest and seizure of vessels.  With regard to the latter, their reference book on “Arrest on seagoing vessels, law in practice” was awarded the Maritime Award of the Belgian ship owners association.

More specifically on arrest and seizure law, A-LAW has experience in domestic and cross border market with:

• Common legal proceedings for the arrest and seizure of movable (accounts) and immovable property and in the hands of third parties (f.ex. client credits) including demands for sequestration or consignation.

Important to mention is the seizure by way of unilateral petition prior to the issue of a writ on the merits.  This form of seizure is advisable in case amounts remain unpaid without presence of a founded ground of contest and signs of economic difficulties of the debtor becomes obvious.
