Belgium - Legal aid and the police court - other courts

Many people are unknown with the fact that if they have to appear before the police court (violation of the Road Traffic Code - accidents with third parties), they can appeal to a lawyer of their choice for FREE!

The freedom of choice of your lawyer is absolute and is entirely up to the person who is insured, the person who pays the premium.

Legal aid insurers do not always make this clear to their customers.

As a customer / policyholder, you do not have to agree with the lawyer your insurer covering the legal aid, is proposing or is trying to impose.

Everyone in Belgium has a coverage for legal assistance under the mandatory Car insurance and many also have coverage for legal aid/assistance under their FAMILY liability insurance, property insurance etc.
