Roeland Jans

Attorney-at-law Roeland Jans is head of the Dutch desk at A-Law and your point of contact for your legal questions and disputes relating to intellectual property (trademark, patents, models, copyright), protection of knowhow, innovation, technology and design.
Lawyer Roeland Jans graduated as a Master of Law with specialization in European and International Law at the University of Maastricht, The Netherlands in 2005.
He completed a postgraduate degree "LL.M. in Competition Law and Intellectual Property "at the former Institute for European Legal Studies at the University of Liege, now the 'Liège Innovation and Competition Institute.
He continued his career with an internship at the European Parliament as well as at Baker & McKenzie "Corporate Contracts & Competition" division
In 2010 he followed a special training for corporate and capital markets at the University of Tilburg.
From 2007-2013 he worked as a lawyer in corporate, intellectual property, commercial and transport law at an international Dutch Law Firm and a Belgian patent and trademark office.
During the said period, he was assigned on a frequent basis as trademark and design proxy.
In this capacity, he managed the brand portfolio of different (inter) national companies providing optimal support in the protection of their intellectual property rights in the UK, the European Union, the United States, Australia , Canada, China, Japan and South Korea.

Since 2014 he is accredited as a Belgian lawyer.
In 2020, he obtained a certificate for training in Belgian patent law and Belgian patent practice.
Lawyer Roeland Jans has gained specific knowledge and expertise in the field of contract and regulatory compliance audits as well as consultancy and litigation concerning intellectual property, trademark and design law, copyright law, seizure law, commercial law, distribution law, competition law, unfair commercial practices and corporate law.
Seen his education and training in different legal systems, Roeland has a thorough knowledge of Belgian, Dutch, European and international procedural law.
Trained in Dutch law, Belgian law, European and international law, Roeland is A-Law direct contact for Dutch companies doing business or investing in Belgium and the other regions in which A-Law is active (see regions) and vice versa the Belgian and foreign companies active in the Netherlands.
Together with Managing partner Patricia Leers he is part of the Trade team and as such involved in the drafting and review of agreements of commercial cooperation, procurement, sale, trade, distribution and franchise in Belgium, Europe and the international markets where A-Law attorneys is active.
In this context, he teams up with the A-Law European and international lawyers. This allows him to provide the clients with a comparative analysis of the legal framework applicable to the agreement of cooperation and its business partners, and the drafting of legally verified multilingual contracts.
A-Law Belgian, Dutch, European and international projects cover a wide range of economic sectors, both in the supply and wholesale and retail markets, including food and agriculture, consumer goods, machinery, transport and logistics, chemicals, media, information technology, manufacturing, health, orthopedics, pharmaceuticals, research and development, fashion.
Roeland is a driving force behind the development of A-Law in terms of advising on the importance of intellectual property protection and the enforcement of competition rules, both for start-ups, SMEs and large companies. Within the finance and litigation department, Roeland provides legal support for debt collection law, traffic law, transport law and civil liability.
